Obituary of Anna Gladys Turtinen

Anna (Ann) Turtinen, 81, of Cloquet died Saturday, December 28, 2002 in the Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born October 24, 1921 in Ross, Minn. to Ole and Rose (Nelson) Lee. She graduated from Badger High School in 1938. Ann received a degree in elementary education from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1940. She then taught in Roseau County and also in Mizpah, Plummer and Crosby Elementary Schools. In 1946, Ann married Leo Turtinen and they made their home in Cloquet. She was a mother and homemaker and together with her husband, owned and operated a dairy farm until their retirement in 1985. They were also very active in their community 4-H Club while their children were growing up. Ann was active in Our Savior's Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School and was active in various circles. Her hobbies included baking, reading, especially poetry, and cross stitch. She also enjoyed her six grandchildren immensely. Her husband preceded her in death in 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Nels Lee and two sisters, Olga Ydstie and Martha Christianson. Ann is survived by her daughter, Linda (Brian) Benoit of Poolesville, Maryland; sons, Lloyd (Kay) of Eau Claire, Wisc. and Larry (Natalie) of Minneapolis; four brothers, Otto (Ruth) Lee of Baudette, Rev. Carl (Ann) Lee of Moorhead, Robert Lee of Roseau and Lloyd (Shirley) Lee of Crookston; 6 grandchildren, Evan (Kristen) and Justin Benoit, Erik, Kara, Courtney and Abbey Turtinen. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2003 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
