Obituary of Oletta Bice

Oletta Maranda Bice, 90, Carlton, formerly of Faribault, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born January 20, 1914 in LaSalle, MN, the daughter of Ole and Marie (Mahla) Flogstad Halvorson. Oletta graduated from high school at the age of 16 and attended Mankato State Teacher's College and St. Olaf College. She began her teaching career in 1938 as a country school teacher until 1941, then was a substitute teacher in Faribault until 1945. She attended summer school to learn Braille and taught English at the MN State School for the Blind from 1951 - 1977. Oletta married Orville Bice on December 19, 1942 in St. James, MN. Oletta was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Hannah Circle at First English Lutheran Church, sang with the Golden Notes Chorus for more than 15 years, was a member of Modern Woodman and the Faribault Senior Citizens Center. Oletta was preceded in death by her husband, Orville. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Wayne) Thom of Wright, a son, Norbert (Gen) Bice of Owatonna; seven grandchildren and their families David (Mary) Thom and Alyssa; Timothy (Bonnie)Thom and Matthew, Jacob, Adam and Elleana; Michael Thom and his sons, Robert and Sean; Roland (Deb) Bice and Haley; Kim (Gary) Wobschall and Tanner and Trevor; Brian (Kerry) Bice and Randall (Tabitha) Bice. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 21, 2004 in First English Lutheran Church, Faribault, MN. Spring Interment will be in Richland Cemetery, Faribault. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
