Obituary of Mahlon Evenson Roe

Mahlon E. Roe, 82 of Cloquet died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in his home. He was born January 29, 1922 in West Branch, Michigan to Norman and Amanda (Evenson) Roe. He moved to Cloquet as a young child and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1941. He was a Navy Veteran serving during WWII. Mahlon married Elvera Starkey on February 17, 1951 in Cloquet. He worked in construction most of his life. Mahlon was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Cloquet VFW Post 3979. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He especially enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family. Mahlon was preceded in death by a brother, Daryle; granddaughter, Danielle Love; and nephew, Kerry Roe. He is survived by his wife, Elvera of Cloquet; sons, Michael (Tari), Cortland (Gretchen), and Gary (Anne) all of Cloquet; daughter, Barbara (Cully) Love-Hall of Saginaw; brother, Norman of Shingle Springs, CA; sisters, Gaynelle McDowell of Arroya Grande, CA and Joyce Evers of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren, Cory Roe, Kristie Lathrop, Cortney Roe, Whitney Roe, Riley Roe, Amanda "Sugar" Love, and Landon Hall; three great grandchildren, Alec and Devon Lathrop and Darren Roe; and his special friend and companion golden retriever, Tyler. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or St. Mary's Hospice.
