Dick Gottschald was a great teacher. I landed at WDIO-TV in 1970, right out of college. My three years there working with Dick and colleagues like Stu Stronach gave me an education and experience in TV broadcasting that couldn't be matched. It also surrounded me with friends that are precious to this day and a husband, Bill Juntunen, who was a cameraman there when I was a reporter/anchor. We remember Dick fondly and always will.

I had the opportunity to call mr. Gottschald when I was working on a history of WEBC. He told me some great stuff and he told me that he has boxes of stuff pertaining to webc.
Mr. Gottschald was a great broadcaster and he will be sadly missed like Earl Henton and Marsh Nelson.
As to the memory of Gottscald, the webc items he owns should be donated to webc or to the pavek museum of broadcasting in St. Louis Park, Mn. God Bless.

My condolences to the family of Dick Gottschald. Dick was news director when I began my broadcasting career at WEBC.
Dick was an inspiration to all of us. He was the epitome of professional broadcast journalism. We were never close friends, but, my first experience with broadcast news was with one of the very best. He will be missed.

My condolences to the family and friends of Dick Gottschald.
I worked with Dick in the early 60's at WEBC radio and remember him as one of the most capable news directors I have ever known. A man dedicated to his profession...a great teacher...a man of principle. A broadcast journalist in the true sense of the word. A great many people in our profession remember him fondly and regret his passing.

Dick hired me at WEBC in 1959. He and I had a wonderful relationship.
We worked together for many years, and he gave me the name "Mike Mitchell" to use on the air. My fondest memories of working with Dick was doing "live" radio news reports at 4:00a.m. when it was 30 below. (we were both much younger then) I have never enjoyed working for and with anyone as much as I did with Dick. He was a true professional and I have thought of him often.
My sympathy to his family. I have nothing but the best of memories of our days working together. Dick was one of the nicest people I have every known. He let me have an opportunity that I am forever grateful for.
I will miss him.

Dear Family:
I contacted my brother, Roy West in Las Vegas, Nevada to
find out if he knew Dick. He knew Dick from High School.
Dick graduated a year after Roy.
Roy was sad to hear about your
loss. He had followed Dick's
career as Roy was also in broadcasting. He was in Ills. and Las Vegas in radio. He wanted me to send his sincere
sympathy to all of you.
