Obituary of Elsie Eleanor Anderson

Elsie Matson Anderson, 102 of Carlton died Saturday, February 1, 2003 in the Cloquet Community Memorial Nursing Home. She was born September 20, 1900 in Carlton to Robert and Bertha (Johanson) Matson. Elsie graduated from Carlton High School in 1918 and from the Duluth Business College in 1920. She worked for various Real Estate Agents and Lawyers as well as for Bridgeman-Russel Creamery in Duluth. Elsie was a survivor of the 1918 fire which burned to within a few blocks of her home. She married Alfred "Cupid" Anderson on July 22, 1922 in Duluth. They lived in Cloquet until 1926 at which time they moved to and made their home in Carlton. She was a member of the Carlton Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Eagle's Drill Team. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Cupid" in 1976; and a sister, Edith Lower. She is survived by her son, Robert (Charlotte) of Cloquet; three grandchildren, Jacqueline (Hadley) Ford of Springfield, Missouri, Thomas (Deb) Anderson of Osceola, Wisc., Andrea (Michael) Rogers of Eden Prairie; 8 great grandchildren, one cousin, Eleanor Hanson of Carlton, a nephew, Walter (Pat) Lower of Moose Lake and several cousins in Sweden. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the nursing home and Dr. Dana Malkovich for the personal and thoughtful care they extended to Elsie. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton in the spring.
