Obituary of Gerald Archie Karppinen

Gerald "Jerry" Archie Karppinen, 60, Cotton, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003. He was born August 4, 1942 in Hibbing, the son of Archie and Marian (Winberg) Karppinen. He was a 1960 graduate of Cotton High School and worked as a self-employed trucker until the late 1980's when he worked out of state on many pipeline jobs. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his lake home. He was preceded in death by his father, Archie in 1975; his grandparents, Ida and William Winberg and Emil and Anna Karppinen and a nephew, Scott Veranth. Jerry is survived by three sons, Kevin and Kyle (Leah Okerlund), both of Esko and Kelly (Roxie) of Saginaw; a daughter, Kerry Karppinen (Terry Salmonson) of Cotton and their mother, Sandra Karppinen of Esko; his mother, Marian Karppinen of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Kaylynn Tuhkanen, Kolten, Kourtney, Kody, Krystal, Bryce and Trey Karppinen; a sister, Darlene (Dan) Hackey of Porterville, CA; two aunts, Sylvia Haluptzok of Cloquet and Lillian (Walt) Kangas of Gilbert and many other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23, 2003 in the Cotton Community Church. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Cotton. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
