Obituary of George W. Rohlf

George W. Rohlf, 81, Cloquet, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003 in his home after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born July 11, 1921 in Beroun, MN, the son of Henry and Anna (Jorgenrud) Rohlf. George was an Army WWII veteran and received a purple heart. He married Doris Ranta on January 4, 1946 in Cloquet. George had worked for Hunkin Conkey Construction in Cleveland, OH, Hunkin Andral Dixon "HAD" Construction in Cleveland and Silver Bay and was Vice President and co-owner of Bay Construction, retiring in the 1980's. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and was a former member of the Moose Lodge 1274 of Cloquet. He enjoyed carpentry, telling stories and was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing on Eagle Lake in Cromwell. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Nina; a brother, Clifford and a sister, Maxine Burmeister. George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris, of Cloquet; his children, Judith Rohlf of Quebec, Canada, James (Janice) Rohlf of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Jane Rohlf of Esko and John (Ann) Rohlf of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Gage, Nina, Tyler and Anna; and a sister, Helen (Robert) Gotzh of Aurora, CO. A memorial service was held Tuesday, February 4, 2003 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
