Obituary of Ethel Hilma Rengo

Ethel Hilma Eleanor Rengo, 87 of Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, formerly of Floodwood died Monday, July 29, 2002. She was born May 15, 1915 in Floodwood to John and Hilma (Jaakola) Simi. Ethel married Edward Rengo on May 27, 1932 in Floodwood. They lived in Duluth for a short time before purchasing the dairy farm from Ethel's father. She farmed while raising their seven children. For several years she also raised her younger sister, Jennnie. During the 1950's and 1960's, she worked at Chun King in Zimm. Ethel was a member of Big Lake Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Cloquet. She enjoyed reading and singing. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Edward on January 15, 1989; brothers, Walter and William Simi; sisters, Jennie Simi and Mae Saarikoski; and a granddaughter, Deborah Sanders. She is survived by five daughters, Lorraine Swain of Duluth, Elaine (Louis) Helmer of Belle Fourche, SD, Gail (Dale) Reimer of Mound, Phyllis Koskela of Mecklenburg, NY, Sharon (Ronald) Grand of Carlotta, CA; two sons, Edward "Al" (Lois) of Bellevue, NE and Duane "John" (Brenda) of Esko; a sister, Jeanette Rengo of Esko; 21 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 3, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Reverend Calvin Rengo officiated. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
