Obituary of Raymond Edwin Timonen

Raymond Edwin Timonen, 65 of Carlton, died Sunday, August 5, 2001 in his home. He was born August 12, 1935 in Beaver Township to Victor and Ida Esther (Soyring) Timonen. He grew up in Beaver Township and graduated from McGregor High School in 1953. Ray married Mary Gish on September 15, 1956 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. They made their home in Kettle River where Raymond was self employed hauling milk from 1953 until 1967. He attended the Duluth Area Vocational and Technical Institute for welding and went to work at Clyde Iron Works in Duluth in 1968. He moved to Carlton in 1969. In 1986, Ray went to work at Reach - All in Duluth and later for Barko Hydraulics in Superior where he retired from in 1997. Ray was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton and he enjoyed old cars. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arne Timonen. Ray is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Jane (Randy) Willie of Carlton, Barb Hickey of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Gary Timonen and Debra (Scott Smith) Timonen both of Duluth; his grandchildren, Daniel Willie of Minneapolis, Jenna Willie of Carlton, Andrea Hickey of Grand Forks and Nathan Hickey of Montgomery, Alabama; his brother, Rudolph Timonen of Moose Lake and a sister-in-law, Nancy Sorenson of Sturgeon Lake. A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 9, 2001 in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton. Burial was in Beaver Cemetery in Beaver Township. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet.
