Obituary of Mamie Laitinen

Mamie Kummala Laitinen, 91, Cloquet, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003 in Lakeshore Lutheran Home, Duluth. She was born November 30, 1911 in Ottertail County, MN, the daughter of Matti and Serafina (Hotakainen) Pajuoja. Mamie was homemaker, helped on the family farm and had been employed as a nurses aide at Nopeming Nursing Home for several years. She loved listening to music and enjoyed dancing. She married William Laitinen on March 23, 1990 in Carlton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Arthur Kummala in 1967, her second husband, Charles Rydie in 1974; a daughter, Elsie Perttula; two brothers, William Pajuoja and Arvo Paju; three sisters, Millie Kesty, Mary Ellen Sander and Elsie Pohjola; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; three step-daughters, Vivian Balduc, Delores Howell and Ellen Uutela and a step-son, Blackie Laitinen. Mamie is survived by her husband, Bill, of Cloquet; three daughters, Anita (Robert) Fountain, Shirley (Gene) Huhta and Janet Tucker, all of Cloquet; two sons, Elmer (Mary) Kummala and Kenneth Kummala, both of Cloquet; a step-daughter, Irene Peterson of Lakeville, MN; two step-sons, Donald (Barbara) Laitinen of Esko and Duane Laitinen of Irving, TX; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and 19 step grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 11, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Burial will be in Mantyla Cemetery, Sebeka.
