Obituary of Viola Adelia Hill

Viola Adelia Hill, 86, of Cloquet, died Monday, March 04, 2002 in Cloquet Community Memorial Nursing Home. She was born June 30, 1915 in Thomson Township, MN to Gust and Aina ( Kastell) Hill. Viola was a graduate of Cloquet High School. She worked at the Carlton County Courthouse as a secretary for several years before moving to Washington, DC to work as a secretary for the Tariff Commission. Viola moved to Michigan for a number of years in a tax business partnership before moving back to Washington, DC until retirement. She spent one year on the French Riviera living with a friend. Viola was a member of the Finlandia Beach Club and the Suomi Club and sang with the Suomi Club Singers. She loved the ballet, theater, opera, and traveling (she once spent a year in Switzerland working for the Tariff Commission), and enjoyed taking the train to New York to see shows. Viola also enjoyed reading books and poetry. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Hill; 4 sisters, Olga Mattson, Elsie Antilla, Florence Martz, and Ellen Hubbell and 2 infant brothers. Viola is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families, and a very special friend, Eivor Lumppio of Cloquet. A Memorial service was held on Saturday, March 9, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of Northland Funeral Home. Pastor Rollie Bockbrader will be officiating. Memorials preferred to St. Matthew's Cemetery, Esko, MN, for upkeep to the cemetery.
