Obituary of Judith Annette Mickelson

Judith Annette Mickelson, 67 of Cloquet went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 24, 2004 in her home surrounded by her family. Judy was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer on June 2, 2004 and fought bravely against the disease throughout the diagnosis. Judy was born to Axel Herman and Edith Margaret (Hamren) Carlson on March 31, 1937 at their home in Minneapolis. She lived in Minneapolis until age 7 at which time the family moved to Cole Lake near Wright. In 1949 she moved to Cloquet where she attended Cloquet schools and graduated from the Cloquet High School in 1954. She was involved in 4-H and other special activities throughout her formal schooling. Judy graduated with honors from Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College in 1996 with an Associate in Applied Science, an Associate in Arts Degree, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Judy owned and operated "The Mustard Seed" consignment and gift shop. Judy's other standout employers were the Multiple Sclerosis Society and The American Red Cross which she sold pull tabs for at the Lumberjack Lounge and Foundry. She was a loyal and dedicated employee. She was also an avid volunteer in the community. Judy enjoyed gardening, crafting, and spending time with her family and friends. She was admired by many people for her caring and generous ways. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Edith Carlson; step-mother, Rubye Angell; brother-in-law, Eugene Peterson; and special friend, Bob Amborn. She is survived by her children, Lon (Sandy) Mickelson of Lakeville, Lauri (Joe) Kitto of Proctor, Gail (Dale) Langila of Esko, John Mickelson III of Cloquet, Keith Mickelson of Mound, and Eric (Mollie Morse) Mickelson of Eau Claire, Wisc.; grandchildren, Amanda (Stuart Miller) Schmitz, Kristi (Ted Jacobi) Johanson, Jenny St. Germain, Joshua Langila, Michelle St. Germain, and Ashley Langila; great grandchildren, Dylan, Jayce, Elisabeth, Lukas, and Halle; step-grandchildren, Zack and Brandon; sister, Marilyn Peterson of Tamarack; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to St. Luke's Hospital and Hospice Care, Lake Haven Nursing Home and the American Cancer Society. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 in Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet. Burial was in the Wright Public Cemetery in Wright.
