Obituary of Myles Mitchell Cadwell

Myles Mitchell Cadwell, 80, of Cloquet, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. He was born July 13, 1921 in Brainerd to Reverend John and Edna Mae (Mitchell) Cadwell. His family lived in several areas of Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska while he was growing up. He graduated from Pine River High School in 1938. Myles worked in the Civilian Conservation Camps working at the Itasca State Park from 1938 until 1940. He joined the Air Force in 1940, serving in France and England. He served at Eisenhower's headquarters with the Air Force Military Police. He also served in the 4077th Medical Co. of the U.S. Army Reserves for 35 years. After WWII, he returned to Pine River where he worked at Durkee Manufacturing. In 1947, Myles went to work for the Railroad. He worked for the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads. Initially he worked in the traffic department, then in the Marketing department in Duluth until his retirement in 1981. In 1950, he moved to Cloquet. He married Mitzi Olson on June 25, 1955 in Cloquet. Myles was a life member of the Cloquet VFW Post 3979 where he was a Past Commander from 1958 - 1959 and from 1996 - 1997 and had also held other offices. He was a proud member of the Cloquet Combined Guard for many years. He was the Past Eighth District Commander from 1992 to 1993 and the Eighth District Quarter Master. He was a 56 year member of the VFW and a 54 year member of the American Legion. Myles was a member of MOC #59 where he served as treasurer, the Seam Squirrel and the CCDB. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, National Association of Uniform Services, and the Duluth Ostomy Group. Myles was also the state representative for the VFW for the Silver Bay Veterans Nursing Home and was a volunteer driver for Veteran Services. Myles served on the Cloquet Education Foundation board and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He enjoyed bowling for 40 years and bowled on the Cloquet Classic League. He also enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee at Perkins. Myles was preceded in death by three brothers, Winston, Eugene and Bruce Cadwell; a sister, Faith Arboleda; step-sister, Ruth Edward, step-brothers, Ora Cadwell and Donald Cadwell. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mitzi of Cloquet, sons, Jeffrey (Vickie) of Duluth and Dwight (Diane) of Cloquet; daughter, Margaret (John) Couillard of Cloquet; sister, Laverne Maehren of Hinckley; brothers, Graydon (Gladys) of Grand Rapids, Durane (Anita) of Park Rapids; 9 grandchildren, Ashlea, Chelsea, Courtnea, Joshua, Trevor and Carley Cadwell, Timothy, Skyler and Aaron Couillard; sisters-in-law, Thelma Cadwell of Hoyt Lakes, Barbara Cadwell of Coon Rapids, Setsuko Cadwell of Pine River. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 28, 2001 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Military Honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
