Obituary of Selma S. Pohjonen

Selma S. Salo Kangas Lehto Pohjonen, 86, Duluth, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at home after a long illness. She was born October 2, 1917 in Tamarack, the daughter of Sam and Jenny (Bakka) Salo. Selma had worked as a switchboard operator in Lawler and Duluth and also in the housekeeping department at Miller-Dwan Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arnold Kangas on November 8, 1956, her second husband, Waino Lehto in March of 1968; a sister, Sylvia Luuki and a brother, Sam Salo. Selma is survived by four sons, Roger Kangas of Superior, Jack (Nanda) Kangas of Two Harbors, Russell (Debbie) Kangas of Collinsville, Mississippi, L. Michael (Diane) Kangas of Duluth; four daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Costley of Duluth, Linda Lewis of Traskwood, Arkansas, Mary Nuoffer of Benton, Arkansas and Tammy (Rick) Hogan of Duluth; 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 4, 2004 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Burial was in Salo Cemetery, Salo Township.
