Obituary of Marie Elinor Finberg

Marie Elinor Finberg, 78, of The Interfaith Care Center in Carlton, formerly of Cloquet, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2003 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born September 28, 1924 in Cromwell to Oscar and Ruth Finberg. She had been an active member of J.M. Paine Presbyterian Church in Carlton since 1982. Marie worked at the Match Mill from 1942 - 1956 and at Northwest Paper, later called Potlatch, from 1956 until retiring in 1982. She was the first woman foreman in the finishing room at Potlatch. Marie spent eleven years helping her friend Marilyn Joseph raise her children. She and Marilyn worked opposite shifts at Potlatch so that one of them would always be with the children. Marie loved and cared for Paulette, Greg, and Lynette as if they were her own. Marie enjoyed Gospel singing with a group of dear friends. They shared their music at various places in the Moose Lake area. She also enjoyed spending time with her former co-workers in a group called "The Paper Dolls." Marie had a great love for dogs and over the years adopted many that had been abandoned. She also helped the Carlton County Friends of Animals. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean Caza. She is survived by three sisters, Betty (Harley) Smith of Carlton, Nancy Finberg of Carlton, Charline (Donald) Franzen of Cloquet; one brother, Jack (Donna) Finberg of Deltona, Florida; her brother-in-law, Gordon Caza of Cloquet; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many longtime friends. Marie was extremely thankful for the wonderful, loving care she received at both the Cloquet and Carlton Nursing Homes and expressed her gratefulness often. Her family thanks them too. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton. Memorial contributions are preferred to Friends of Animals, J.M. Paine Presbyterian Church or to Cancer Research.
