Obituary of Delbert John Garrett

Delbert John Garrett, 68, of Duluth died Monday, July 15, 2002 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born October 22, 1933 in Duluth to Caryl and Nora (Crist) Garrett. He grew up in Duluth and moved to Floodwood when he was a sophomore in high school. He graduated from Floodwood High School in 1951. Delbert served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned home and attended UMD where he received his Bachelor of Art Degree in Accounting in 1958. He married Marilyn Larson on September 6, 1957. Delbert worked for the General Adjustment Bureau in Virginia, Minnesota and in 1963 he was transferred to Jamestown, North Dakota. In 1966 he joined Farmers Union Insurance Company in New Rockford, North Dakota where he was an agent until 1985. While in New Rockford, he was a member of the Masons, Kiwanis and the New Rockford Flying Club. He moved back to Duluth and was an iron worker in steel construction until his retirement in 1994. Delbert was preceded in death by a son, Peter and a brother, Bryan. He is survived by a son, Michael (Julie) of Mountain Home, Idaho; a daughter, Connie (William) Clabots of Crystal and their mother, Marilyn Garrett of Jamestown, North Dakota; sisters, Jean (J. Vernon) Hutchinson of Floodwood, Margaret "Peggy" (Mario) Peverini of Tampa, Florida and Leita (Craig) McEwen of West Fargo, North Dakota; 5 grandchildren and his special friend, Marilyn Stefford of Tamarack. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 18, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial was in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Floodwood.
