Obituary of Wilho Wilmer Hill

Wilho Wilmer Hill, 87, Floodwood, died Saturday, June 28, 2003 in his home. He was born January 17, 1916 in Gowan, MN, the son of John and Mathilda (Tuippo) Hill, Sr. He attended the Halden Township School. Wilho married Helen E.R. Hakala in 1938. Following her death, he married Helen E. Snyder in 1957. Wilho lived in Floodwood most of his life, but spent a short period of time on the North Shore of Minnesota logging with his brother, Rudolph. He was a farmer and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Ulland Brothers Construction Co. for a number of years. He was a member of the 49er's Union and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing. He was preceded in death by his first spouse, Helen E. R.; four brothers, Matt, Fred, Sakri and Rudolph and two sisters, Henna Raiha and Olga Leppi. Wilho is survived by his wife, Helen of Floodwood; a daughter, Kathleen (Edward) Demenge of Cloquet; a son, Roger Hill of Floodwood; two step-sons, Ted (Sue) Sillanpaa of Floodwood and James (Linda) Sillanpaa of TX; a brother, John Hill of Duluth; a sister, Martha Leppi of Floodwood; two grandsons, Tyrone (Wendy) Demenge and Travis (Jodie) Demenge, both of Barnum; two step grandchildren Tracey (Wayne) Hjelle of Thief River Falls and Philip (Lisa) Sillanpaa of New Folden; four great grandchildren, Brandon, Alex, Logan and Levi Demenge; and four step-great grandchildren, Emily and Jeffrey Sillanpaa and Jessica and Austin Hjelle. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2003 from 5-7 p.m. in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue Thursday, July 3, 2003 from 12:00 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service in Hope Lutheran Church, Floodwood. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township, MN.
