Obituary of Joseph Seymour Kalm

Joseph S. Kalm, 55 of Cloquet died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born September 22, 1947 in Moose Lake, MN to Owen and Shirley (Golen) Kalm. Joe grew up in Cloquet and graduated from Proctor High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He also served in the 477th Army Reserve Medical Unit and the 109th Army National Guard, retiring after 20 years. During the 1970's Joe worked on the oar boats in Duluth. He worked at Potlatch from 1978 until 2002. He married Sherry Peterson on June 16, 1993. Joe was a member of the MN Goldwings-Twin Ports Chapter and was associated with the Goldwing Touring Association. He was a former member of the Scanlon Volunteer Fire Dept. He loved his three cats, K.C., Ellie and Fred. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry on September 1, 2000. He is survived by his son, Bryan (Tara Nelson) of Mahtowa; his parents, Owen and Shirley Kalm of Carlton; brother, Guy (Jami) Kalm of Cloquet; niece and nephews, Angela (Frank Burger) Kalm of Superior, Guy II (Torrie) Kalm of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Jeff (Megan) Kalm of Phoenix, Arizona; special friend, Janey Mitchell of Cloquet; and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, 2003 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
