Obituary of Carol Darlene Austin

Carol Darlene (Guentzel) Austin, 62 of Floodwood, died Friday, November 28, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 10, 1941 in St. Cloud to Walter and Alma (Theisen) Guentzel. She moved to Floodwood when she was 13 and graduated from Floodwood High School in 1959. She worked at APCO until 1969. Carol married Ted Austin in 1969 in Floodwood. She stayed home to raise her three children and in 1986 she went back to work. She worked for Bev and Jerry Davidson, Bridgemans and the Main Line. She also managed the Stardust Motel in Floodwood and helped at the Floodwood Community Center. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, doing arts and crafts, playing 7's and bingo and decorating for the holidays. Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Desiree in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Scott (Deb Senarighi) and Trever (Holly Enlund) both of Carlton and their father, Ted Austin; three grandchildren, Blake, Chad and Kasey Austin; brothers, Donald (Lorraine) Guentzel of Floodwood, Dale (Pam) Guentzel of Aurora, Darrold (Geri) Guentzel of Inver Grove Heights; sisters, Dorothy (Dick) Disque of Naples, Florida, Delores (Jack) Johnston of Pike Lake, Dona (Martin) Lane of Saginaw, Diane (Ed) Young of Wawina; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends of the family, Nora, Helen and Tabi and many other friends. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospice for the kindness and compassion they showed to Carol and her family. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, December 1, 2003 in St. Louis Catholic Church in Floodwood. Burial will be in the spring in Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
