Obituary of Eugene Francis Baker

Eugene Francis Baker, 77, formerly of Esko, died Monday, October 22, 2001 in Nopeming Nursing Home, where he had resided since 1999. He was born April 10, 1924 in Bertha, MN, the son of George and Mabel (Piquette) Baker. He married Bernice A. Gault on September 23, 1944 in Duluth. Eugene worked as a foreman for U.S. Steel in Duluth, retiring in 1979 after 38 years of service. Eugene will be fondly remembered as a "family man" for the love and support he gave to his family. Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes, cribbage leagues, was known as being a "Jack of all trades", and was always willing to help anyone. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Floyd Baker. Eugene was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Bernice of Cloquet; three sons, Dale (Judy) of Duluth, Robert (Sharon) of Cloquet and Curtis of Superior; five daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Fredrickson and Lois (Steve) Nynas, both of Esko, Shirley (Arlen) Shanblott of Blaine, MN, Terry (Michael) Line of Barnum and Lori (Raymond) Feltes of Savage, MN; a sister, Leona Doble of Cloquet; four brothers, Vernon of Proctor, Jerome (Donna) and Earl (Sharon), both of Cloquet and LeRoy (Ardella) of Sula, MT; 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many friends. The family wishes to offer their heartfelt appreciation to the Nopeming staff on 2nd floor East for the wonderful loving care and support extended to Eugene and the family members over the last several years. The family received friends from 10:00 until the 11:00 A.M. memorial service on Thursday, October 25, 2001 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet.
