Obituary of Yvonne Marie Peterson

Yvonne Marie Peterson, 72, of Cloquet died Friday, June 25, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 23, 1931 in Murdock, Minnesota the second of two children to Thomas and Laura (Cavanaugh) Walsh. She moved to Alexandria in 1947 before moving to Cloquet shortly thereafter. Yvonne made her home in Cloquet, working at Diamond Match for 45 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, and the Women of the Moose. Her family originally hailed from Ireland and she was very proud of her Irish heritage. Although Yvonne had no children of her own, she lived vicariously through her seven nieces and nephews. She was a very special aunt. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Phyllis Miller in June 2002; brother-in-law, Robert Miller Sr. in 1995; nephew, Robert Miller Jr. in 1997; niece, Diana Miller in 1949; and her fiancé, Richard Benkoski in 1989. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Pam (James) Nivinski, Richard (Patti) Miller, Linda Miller, George (Lisa) Miller, and Paul (Linda) Miller all of Illinois; Steve (Theresa) Miller of LaCrosse, Wisc.; special friend, Karen (Paul) Fisher of Cloquet. Yvonne is also survived by many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and other extended family. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Inurnment was in New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet.
