I will be thinking about Steve (and Diane of course) as I work at a dog rescue event today. Aside for my love for animals, Steve is probably the number 2 reason why I will be volunteering there today. He so graciously took me under his wing my first day at the FOA Rummage Sale and made me feel so welcome and comfortable, So comfortable that I came back again and again and got to learn more and more from him. I enjoyed talking with him and hearing all the dog & cat stories he & Diane have been through! WOW! He mentioned fostering too, which I never thought I was strong enough to do, yet here I am doing it thanks to his encouragement. I will honor you Steve at the Rescue Event today. RIP my friend. I am so glad you entered my life.

To Diane and family, my deepest regards and sympathy. Steve and I were classmates at Stillwater. We knew each other, but ran in a different crowd as I was from Lakeland Shores. I remember thinking in HS how good a person Steve was, even though we were not close. It was not till years later that I discovered that Steve and I had pursued the same career goal, Chiropractic. I was also good friends with Tim Setterquist, a classmate of mine at Northwestern College of Chiropractic, who was a colleague of Steve's in Cloquet. So we had connections, and my initial "good person" feelings about Steve back in HS were only confirmed as we saw each other at seminars, and enjoyed each others company. Rest in peace to a good guy.

I was surprised and saddened to read of Steve's death. I was one of his first patients and he helped me for many years. I saw him recently at Perkins and we chatted briefly as we waited for take-out food. He and you, Diane, entrusted me to sell your parents' home and you both supported me greatly in my campaign for Mayor three years ago. I considered Steve a good friend, who was always kind and sincere. You have my and my wife's deepest sympathy, Diane.

My lovely friend Diane , I feel helpless that I cannot be with you because many miles separate us. Steve like yourself was just a lovely soul, and I am so sorry you lost him. We both send you all the love we can, and wish we were there so we could support you in person. Our love now and always Linny and Andy

I was fortunate to know through his music. We were in a local Stillwater band called the "Babes of Paradise". Known as just the Babes. I don't know if we were but the name stuck. Dave Wallen's girl friend came up with it.
Steve was a great drummer as some of you know and I was privileged to know him and play with him. We even had him sing a song, Maggie's Farm by Dylan. He loved that.
I recently talked with him and communicated by email. He was giving me some doctor advice. It took him away from his remodeling but he took the time. I suspect that is the kind of guy he is. Loving and generous.
I know he will be missed by all who know him.

Stephen and I were fraternity brothers (Beta Phi Kappa) at UMD. We have fallen out of touch over the years, but I will always have fond memories of him and the fun we had together. My sympathies to his wife, siblings, and extended family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, old friend.

Very sorry Diane and so many others and the special animals that you and Steve saved and made a great life for them. Steve was a fantastic Beta and was able to correct some of the errors that some of us made. A great example. Bless you.

I grew up with Steve, from early elementary school at Oak Park through SHS. We had recently gotten back together after all those years on Facebook and were sharing stories and getting to know each other again. Years hadn't changed a thing - he was the same great guy. Haven't heard from him for awhile, but didn't think anything of it. So very sad. My deepest condolences to his family, foremost, and all his friends, many of whom are my friends as well.

Steve and I were best friends during our childhoods on Pine St in Stillwater. He was the coolest guy in the world because he was an elite drummer. And he was a talented ball player. And soft-hearted, always concerned about the feelings of our friends. We planned to farm together and ride John Deere tractors all day long. I'm so sad we didn't stay connected very much as adulthood went along. I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to Diane and Ann and all of Steve's family. Your family and friends will miss you, Steve, and the example you set for us all in how to live a purposeful life.
From your friend Mel Peaslee
