Obituary of Signe Ilma Pitkanen

Signe Pitkanen, 104 of Cromwell passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell. She was born September 4, 1916 in Cromwell to David and Alma (Varis) Maki. Signe graduated from Cromwell High School in 1934. On November 1, 1936 she married Eino Pitkanen. They moved to California in 1937 and remained there until 1951 at which time they returned to Cromwell. In all of her 104 years, Signe never signed a check, never drove a car, and never flew in an airplane. She was however, an avid Twins and Vikings fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eino; brother, Sulo Maki; and sisters, Irja Wojciehowski and Siiri Harkonen. Signe is survived by two sons, David (Karen) Pitkanen of Prior Lake and Dennis (Francine) Pitkanen of Dayton, Minn., three grandchildren, Tim Pitkanen, Jeff (Kathy) Pitkanen, and Hearth (John) Vukelich; and six great grandchildren, Nikki (Dan) Austin, Tyler Pitkanen, Max (Jenna) Pitkanen, Jenny Pitkanen, Austin Vukelich, and Chloe Vukelich.
