Obituary of Charles William Pfisthner

Charles William “Chuck” Pfisthner, age 92, of Cloquet passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, surrounded by his family at Evergreen Knoll, Cloquet. He was born on January 3, 1931 in Morris, MN to Charles and Delma Pfisthner.

Chuck was a dedicated man even at a young age; he decided to leave school after the 8th grade to go and work at the logging camps. Afterwards he joined the Army reaching Sergent status by the time he was discharged. Chuck married Gloria Ranta on September 15th, 1953.

Chuck spent all his adult life in Cloquet, MN. He owned many businesses, including a grocery store on Big Lake Road and Pfisthner and Sons Paving. Chuck and Gloria were very active in the Carlton County Horse Program for the 4H Club. They owned and boarded horses on their property for many years. Chuck worked at the refinery in Wrenshall where he was part of the team to run the first computerized system in the industry. He attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was an elder for many years. Chuck was also a member of the Local 49ers Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Netta (Olson); brothers, Clayton and Leland.

He is survived by his loving wife Gloria; daughter, Cheryl Caza of Duluth, MN; sons, Chuck (Margaret) Pfisthner Jr. of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Craig (Jane) Pfisthner of Big Fork, MN; Chris Pfisthner of Poplar, WI; grandsons, Bryce (Emily) Pfisthner of Cloquet, MN, Ben White of Cloquet, MN, Jake (Tyann) Pfisthner of Big Fork, MN, Sam (Morgan) Pfisthner of Creston, MN, Wyatt Pfisthner of Park Falls, WI, Nicholas Pfisthner of Poplar, WI, and Tanner Johnson of Cloquet, MN; granddaughters, Brittany Finn of Cloquet, MN, Catie (Thor) Gunderson of Park Falls, WI, and Kerrissa Eggert of Ironwood, MI; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Pfisthner of Lake Nebagamon, WI; sister, Marilyn Henniger of Barnum, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. 

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service, Monday, August 21, 2023 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 515 Skyline Blvd, Cloquet. Burial will take place following the service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. A luncheon will follow the burial.
