I do not get on the computer often but just read of your loss, Lucille. I am sure you will carry on like I have learned to do and have so many pleasant memories. You have my sympathy and am so glad Floyd and I got to be with you two for a short time.

Lucy and family,
Phyllis and I and the whole extended Thorp family wish to send our deepest sympathy and condolences for Jim’s passing. He was a great guy and a wonderful role model to all of us “younger guys” who had the privilege of working with him. He was one of those few people you meet in life who led and taught by example by how he worked and lived his life. We have wonderful memories of him. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My sincerest thoughts and prayers to the family.
Jim was my first boss. He wasn’t just a boss, foremost, a leader. He took pride in his work and instilled that upon me. For that, I owe my working career to him. What he taught me cannot be described by words.
Two points I will always remember him by:
-a quote on the door (at Mt. Royal) listen, listen, listen to the people that do the work (H. Ross Perot)
-don’t ever give up.
He also taught me that dinner was “lunch time”.
After his retirement I saw him ringing bells for the Salvation Army and we caught up. What a great conversation!
I will always remember him as my first boss, but more so as the best boss anyone could ever ask for! His words still ring true to me to this day.
If I had a pomegranate, I’d bring it Wednesday! Being new, he told me to eat it like an apple. The disgust in my face made him smile like his wedding day! I got him back at his retirement with a rotten fruit basket!
RIP Jim and condolences to the family.

I worked for Jim for 10 years, in the Mount Royal Super Valu's produce department, in the mid 70s to mid 80s, and was privileged to have had him for a boss. There was never a dull moment, Jim had a tremendous work ethic and a great sense of humor. He truly made Mt Royal's produce department, famous throughout the area, for quality and selection. Although I didn't see him often through the years, I often thought of the good times we shared. He will be missed.
Lucy, Brad & Brian and family I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. Take care.

We will miss our brother-in-law and Uncle Jim. It was always fun to visit with him and Lucy on our trips back to Minnesota. We particularly appreciated his sense of humor and interest in many things and ideas. Love to Lucy and Brian and Brad. Families of Steve and Florence, Molly, Beth and Steve Jr.
