Obituary of Alan Leonard Kangas

Alan Leonard Kangas, 50, Cloquet, died Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. He was born in Duluth on August 21, 1952, the son of Leonard and Betty (Smith) Kangas. Alan was a 1970 graduate of Cloquet High School. He served in the Air National Guard and retired after 20 years of service and was previously the owner/operator of the Munger Tavern and Lumberjack Lounge. Alan also worked as a cement finisher, as a cook for the Great Lakes Fleet and was currently employed as a salesman for Michaud Distributing. He enjoyed fishing, camping, pontooning, cooking, entertaining, planning events and was especially adept at making people happy and comfortable. Alan was a member of the Royal Order of Moose Lodge #1274 in Cloquet, Knights of Kalevala, Sampo Association and the Air National Guard-Driftwood Estates. Alan was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Duane Kangas in 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Kangas, of Proctor; his parents, Leonard and Betty Kangas of Cloquet; his fiancé, Shirley Reno of Cloquet; his brother, David (Cindy) Kangas of Cloquet; his sister, Susan Couture of Cloquet; 6 nieces and nephews, Brandon Kangas, Bobbi Lee Kangas, Justin Couture, Tamara Crotteau, Nathan Crotteau, and Brandon (Nikki) Crotteau, an uncle, many aunts, cousins, friends and his "best buddy", Buster. Visitation will be Monday, June 30, 2003 from 5 - 8 p.m. in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service in Northland Funeral Home. Following the interment in Maple Grove Cemetery a luncheon will be served in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
