Obituary of Leonard Leon Lamb

Leonard Leon Lamb, Jr., 78 of Cedar Valley formerly of Floodwood and Brookston died Saturday, October 19, 2002. He was born October 10, 1924 in Mason City, Nebr. to Leonard and Hallie Mabel (Runyan) Lamb. His family moved to Floodwood when he was a young boy. Leonard worked in the CC Camp before joining the Army in 1943. He was a Private with Company A, 823 Tank Destroyer Battalion serving at Normandy, Rhineland, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Leonard received a Purple Heart for his military service and injuries he received while serving his country. Leonard married Florence Anderson on August 20, 1949 in Duluth. He worked as a bridge and building supervisor for the DM & IR Railroad from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Maintenance of Way Employer's Lodge 1710 &1711, the Over 55 Club of Culver, NRA and DAV. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, fishing, traveling out west and spending time with his grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Franklin Chalberg Jr., Jennifer Van Dake and Harley Pirila. He is survived by his children, Carol (Frank) Chalberg, Peggy (Don) Unulock both of Cloquet, Linda (Roger) Williams and Danny Lamb both of Saginaw, Terry Lamb of Alborn and Christine (Erick) Pirila of Esko; sisters, Opal Oakes and Aloha Lamb both of Brookston; niece, Marilyn (Dwayne) Ehalt of Brookston; 12 grandchildren, Randy and Andy Chalberg, Brandi, Roger Jr., and Jason Williams, Alex, David and Michelle Lamb, Jessica Unulock, Daniel Lamb, Morgan and Maxwell Pirila; 8 great grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley Chalberg, Alissa and Mollie Chalberg, Hallie Williams, Kyrah and Myiah Williams, Christian Lamb and three great grandchildren expected in the near future; very special caregivers, Cheryl Heikkila and Eric Williams and all of his friends at Floodwood Day Care and F.S.T. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Military Honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
