Obituary of Leonard Leroy Niskanen

Leonard Leroy Niskanen, 46 of Floodwood died Sunday, February 23, 2003 in his home. He was born December 10, 1956 in Grand Rapids to Leo and Lila (Marsyla) Niskanen. He was raised in the Prairie Lake, Gowan area and graduated from Floodwood High School in 1975. Leonard married Suzy Hofman on August 6, 1983 in Floodwood. He was self-employed as a farmer and logger/trucker. Leonard was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood and a former member of the Timber Producer's Association. He loved farming with his family and deeply cared about the land. Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Leo; paternal grandparents, Jonas and Amanda Nickanen; maternal grandparents, John and Mabel Marsyla. He is survived by his wife, Suzy; a daughter, Raija and a son, Michael; his mother, Lila Niskanen, all of Floodwood; sisters, Marlys (Tom) Piontek of Floodwood, Lois (Milton) Aho of Kettle River, Kathy (Phillip) Stenson of Wright; his brother, Rodney (Adele) of Floodwood. He is also survived by a whole crop of nephews and nieces. At Leonard's request there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
